Regardless of what tabs I have open (including none) IETester fails to close gracefully and always throws up an error if the IE6 or IE5.5 tab has been open at some point during the session.

I get a generic windows error of IETester has stopped working, with a Close Program option.

If just an IE7 or IE8 tab has been opened without the 2 mentioned above being opened, it closes fine.

Yes, it has already been reported several times on the forum.

I already investigated and couldn't find the problem. So this will not be corrected on the next release that will have RC1, but I am still working on it to correct it in a future release.
