IE8 not opening in IETester

Hi there,

I have installed debugbar v5.3. Its a nice tool to know ur app in differenent versions of IE. Getting one issue as below:

When I tried opening my site with IE all versions.
IE 5, 6, 7 are working fine.
Only issue is for IE 8, its showing the message: "unable to load the requested IE version".
I am using win XP machine with default IE6.

Let me know if any pre-requisite is there to access IE8.

thanks in advance.

ooshmi...

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

Hi,

I suppose you are talking about IETester and not DebugBar.

As stated in the IETester HomePage ( http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage ) :

(Windows XP/IE6 config has some problems and IE8 instance do not work under XP without IE7)

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

I am having the same problem. I have IE6 -and- IE7 Standalone installed on XP SP3. I get the message "A tab has crashed for an unknown reason. You can reopen..." every time I try "New IE8"

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

Hi,

@yaddablah :

This is not the same problem. You have a real crash, that was not the case for ooshmi.
The first question I'll have is : what is you default IE installed ?

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

Hi JFR,

My default Internet Explorer is 6. I use both this and IE7 Standalone for testing only. Firefox is my primary browser.

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

Well, so as stated in the homepage :

"IE8 instance do not work under XP without IE7"

:-O

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

So, are you saying that it is necessary to have IE7 as the DEFAULT? Please advise.

I have IE7 installed, it is just the standalone version and not the default. If the requirement is for IE7 as the default, I suggest stating it as such.

Instead of: "IE8 instance do not work under XP without IE7"
say: "IE8 instance do not work under XP without IE7 as the default browser" (or whatever wording applies to the requirement).

Re: IE8 not opening in IETester

No, there is a misunderstanding.

IE7 NEEDS to be installed. "IE7 standalone" is not an INSTALLED version of IE. It is a hacked version.

IE7 needs to be installed, but doesnt' need to be the default browser, you can have Firefox/Opera/Chrome or other as the default browser.
