How well does IETester simulate old browsers?

I hope you can help me.

Let me begin by saying I'm not a developer, but work in the Technical Support Team.

Understandably, our web developers want to test their websites using old versions of browsers.  I'm trying to find out how feasible it is for our developers to use IETester for this purpose.

Is it 'just' the rendering engine that IETester mirrors with IE?

Our web product generates reports on the server which is then downloaded by the clients browser.  How well would IETester simulate the downloading of the report compared to IE?

I may get some reluctance to use a product like IETester as, no doubt, the developers will question how well IETester simulates Internet Explorer.

Without being bias, what can IETester simulate and what can it not?

Many thanks,

Delta12

Re: How well does IETester simulate old browsers?

Hi,

IETester is in alpha version so it is not completely reliable. It can be a good tool to do quick and basic tests, for a perfect 100% result, only testing on a real IE can be valid.

You can find more information on IETester works here :

Also note that IETester does not support downloading files right now, and you have other limitations at the end of the IETester homepage:

Hope this helps.

Regards.
